Statutory Accident Insurance - Germany

Statutory Accident Insurance - Germany

Germany VBG ( Statutory Accident Insurance) cover employee working from home as well as in office (hybrid); the coverage applies when accident happens directly related to work activity.

VBG makes no distinction between fully remote and hybrid work. As long as the activity is work-related task or the accident occurs in the course of performing that work or the insured commute to it, employee remains covered by the statutory accident insurance.

This legal framework applies regardless of workplace location, because SGB VII defines coverage by activity, not by location.

The insured activity is carried out in the household of the insured person OR at another location , insurance covers exist to the same extent .  § 8 SGB 7 - Individual provision

Link below is from Certo which is a magazine published by VGB the office of statutory accident insurance that provides communications, information, safety education efforts for insured companies.

Home office work is fully recognized as an insured work environment.

Hybrid workers are covered the same as on-site workers such as:

Accident during performing work tasks·

Accident on the way to and from work, even if work is in the home office

Wird die versicherte Tätigkeit im Haushalt des Versicherten oder an einem anderen Ort ausgeübt, besteht Versicherungsschutz in gleichem Umfang wie bei Ausübung der Tätigkeit auf der Unternehmensstätte.”
(If the insured activity is carried out in the insured person’s household or another location, insurance coverage exists to the same extent as when performing the activity at the company location.)This sentence is from § 8 Absatz 1, SGB VII … and it is quoted VERBATIM on a German government‑run site operated by the statutory social insurance system.
